Blackbird, by JD DeHart

Parchment messianic prognostications

Cryptic words about darkness

Some bit about flight

The suggestion of a blackbird savior

For many times, the people suffered

They sinned, repented, and crops burned

The small boy never showed his wings

Skin the color of night on his shoulders

Then one day, he spoke, this prophet

And silenced all, bringing the harvest back

Until they were freed and then killed him.
